More Maine

Ogunquit Beach - Walked along a nice path with the beach on one side
and lots of resorts, inns, etc on the other side.

I waited here while Russ went to get the car and pick me up. Someone mentioned
that Ex-pres Bush (senior) was having lunch in one of the restaurants.

That's his 38' Fountain and one of his secret service in the dive suit

Everyone gave a cheer when he exited the restaurant.  Barbara wasn't with him today, but
he comes to this restaurant just about every Tuesday.

Heading out

Looks like he's got plenty of power

Secret Service have a pretty nice looking ride - guess they don't need all that power

No explaination needed!!!!  There was a time when
I'd have thought this was funny.

Is all this really necessary to catch a little 'ol LOBSTAH?

The best LOBSTAH ROLL I've had yet along with a slice of strawberry - rhubarb pie.

The best view for eating our LOBSTAH ROLL.  The Lobster Trap at 2 Lights (2 lighthouses)

The best table with the best view for eating the best LOBSTAH ROLL

The Lobster Trap restaurant and lots of tables to enjoy the beautiful view

2 Lights State Park - love these rocky shores - very relaxing to sit, watch the boats and
enjoy a beautiful day

LOBSTAH trap mail box

We'll be leaving here tomorrow to head further north.  Acadia National Park is our next
adventure and everyone says northern Maine is prettier than southern Maine.

Maine Part 2

Beautiful metal weather vane at the Maritime Marine Museum
Bath, Maine

This boat yard built wood boats - the white frame in this picture is the fore and aft of the WYOMING - the largest wood boat ever built.  It was 450' long (the ark was 300 cubits, also 450', hmmmm) with 6 masts (hand hewn).  Eventually they'll have a skeleton frame for the whole thing. Including the masts. It carried 6,600 tons of coal...that's a lot of coal.

I'm standing at the base - a whole new perspective

Big boats require big tools - this is a jigsaw.

We also took a tour of the Bath Iron Works - they build boats, mostly destroyers, for the Navy. You won't see any pictures here - very hush, hush. We weren't allowed cameras or cell phones. We saw the new Zumwalt Class Destroyer - well parts of it, unassembled.  Not the usual look - everything is angled - the radar signature is that of a 12' fishing vessel. Armed guards strolling on the bow. Google it for all the interesting info and pics.

Ocean Point

How about your own island with your own lighthouse?  The shoreline is condusive to
lots of small anchorages and waterfront homes with beautiful views.

Makes us wish we'd been able to do some boating "down east".

Maine Part 1

Beach and hotel at Kennebunkport.  Obviously the tide is out...way out.

Boaters are dependent on the tide charts for their coming and going.

Collecting these colorful buoys seem to be a hobby
for waterfront residents.

A lobster boat working off 2 Lights State Park.

Beautiful rocks at 2 Lights State Park - they looked
like petrified wood.

Picturesque anchorage - Bailey Island

A statue honoring fishermen who devote their lives to the sea

You can see why kayaking is so popular here.

Cribstone Bridge to Bailey Island - structured so the
water can flow freely with tide changes

The green hulled lobster boat was just coming into dock

Bay side of Cribstone Bridge and a glimpse of those rocks - love those rocks.
Do rocks have personalities?  These do.

Popham Beach - not our kind of beach.  The tide is WAY out.

Our kind of beach - The rocks at Reid St. Park

There is a swimming beach at Reid St. Park also -
see it way down there. We watched some surfers.

Reid St. Park - even the ducks were surfing - not in this picture though.

New York & Adirondacks

Sagamore Hotel on Lake George - We celebrated our 49th Anniversary
with a leisurely lunch on the patio overlooking the grounds
Everything was very posh and elegant and you
can see the view was spectacular.

So much history here.  A fort every time you turn around.

This is not  your concrete Manhattan.  The Adirondacks are green and lush.
Lots of different trees I'm sure make for beautiful fall folliage.  We won't
see that this time though.

The skating venue at Lake Placid.  Skating lessons going on while we watched.

Olympic Center at Lake Placid.  A real touristy trap town - but cute.

The lake at Lake Placid
