More Maine

Ogunquit Beach - Walked along a nice path with the beach on one side
and lots of resorts, inns, etc on the other side.

I waited here while Russ went to get the car and pick me up. Someone mentioned
that Ex-pres Bush (senior) was having lunch in one of the restaurants.

Everyone gave a cheer when he exited the restaurant.  Barbara wasn't with him today, but
he comes to this restaurant just about every Tuesday.

We'll be leaving here tomorrow to head further north.  Acadia National Park is our next
adventure and everyone says northern Maine is prettier than southern Maine.

Maine Part 2

Bath, Maine

This boat yard built wood boats - the white frame in this picture is the fore and aft of the WYOMING - the largest wood boat ever built.  It was 450' long (the ark was 300 cubits, also 450', hmmmm) with 6 masts (hand hewn).  Eventually they'll have a skeleton frame for the whole thing. Including the masts. It carried 6,600 tons of coal...that's a lot of coal.

Big boats require big tools - this is a jigsaw. 

We also took a tour of the Bath Iron Works - they build boats, mostly destroyers, for the Navy. You won't see any pictures here - very hush, hush. We weren't allowed cameras or cell phones. We saw the new Zumwalt Class Destroyer - well parts of it, unassembled.  Not the usual look - everything is angled - the radar signature is that of a 12' fishing vessel. Armed guards strolling on the bow. Google it for all the interesting info and pics.

Ocean Point

How about your own island with your own lighthouse?  The shoreline is condusive to
lots of small anchorages and waterfront homes with beautiful views.

Makes us wish we'd been able to do some boating "down east".

Maine Part 1

Boaters are dependent on the tide charts for their coming and going.

Collecting these colorful buoys seem to be a hobby
for waterfront residents.

New York & Adirondacks

Sagamore Hotel on Lake George - We celebrated our 49th Anniversary
with a leisurely lunch on the patio overlooking the grounds

  Everything was very posh and elegant and you
can see the view was spectacular.

So much history here.  A fort every time you turn around.

This is not  your concrete Manhattan.  The Adirondacks are green and lush.
Lots of different trees I'm sure make for beautiful fall folliage.  We won't
see that this time though.
